• Trade & Investment Officer at the British Consulate-General, Alexandria

UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) is the British Government organisation that helps UK based companies succeed in the global economy and assists overseas companies to bring their high-quality investment to the UK.
Our 11 strong team in Egypt (including 3 in Alexandria) has the challenging task of helping British companies take advantage of the many opportunities available in Egypt’s developing economy.
We make a real difference to the profitability and success of both UK companies and their Egyptian commercial partners through finding business opportunities for UK businesses in Egypt. Our work helps create jobs and contributes to the economic development and prosperity of both countries.
This is a fascinating and challenging position, focused on supporting British companies to take advantage of the business opportunities in all the above sectors.
Working to the Consul General in Alexandria, you will be required to:
Undertake commercial activities in the infrastructure/ports/construction/power/oil and gas/renewables/petrochemicals/engineering sectors in Egypt, under the direction of the Sector Lead in Cairo, but with specific responsibility for activities in Northern Egypt
Undertake commercial activities in the mining, engineering, metals and minerals sectors throughout Egypt
Support colleagues in both Cairo and Alexandria on commercial projects and activities in other sectors
More specifically you will:
Develop expertise in the specific sectors for which you are responsible
Prepare in-depth reports on your sectors, contribute to business plans and prepare bids for funding.
Contribute to demanding revenue and service delivery targets, by finding appropriate UK businesses to support and delivering our services - some of which are chargeable.
Identify business opportunities for UK companies, and ensure they are brought to the attention of UK business and colleagues in the UK.
Research and obtain information to respond to enquiries from UK companies.
Maintain and develop a broad network of contacts, both in the private sector and governmental institutions in your specific sectors of interest, but also in the business community in Alexandria and Northern Egypt
Maintain contact with UK companies in your sectors of responsibility established in Egypt, and with associations of UK companies.
Prepare programmes for trade missions and UK visitors.
Attend relevant trade fairs and exhibitions to gain sector information.
Organise sector events and liaise with stakeholders.
Regular travel both within and outside Egypt, and occasional out of hours working will be required.
Competences:
A strong team-working ethic and excellent inter-personal and communication skills are essential, as is the ability to work effectively without constant supervision.
Excellent customer focus, initiative and results delivery skills.
The ability to develop and maintain a network of contacts.
Computer skills (including Microsoft Excel, Word, Power Point, etc).
Experience:
A proven track record of achievement is essential
At least 3 years’ work experience in (at least) one of the following sectors is essential:
infrastructure/construction
power/oil and gas/renewables/petrochemicals
engineering
Experience in preparing specialised market reports and the organisation of promotional events is highly desirable.
An understanding of international trade issues and knowledge of market research techniques is desirable.
Languages:
Candidates must be fluent in both English and Arabic.
Salary and Benefits:
Monthly Gross Salary is LE10,750 subject to tax as per the usual regulations. We offer a competitive package including medical benefits, performance related bonus, recreational facilities, opportunities for job related training & development, etc.
36 hour working week. Regular office hours are from 08:00-15:30, Sundays to Thursdays and 8:00 – 14:00 on Thursdays, but flexible working is available. •* A private medical scheme is provided
