Description Computational Specialist, Biology Department Principal Accountabilities: Participates in the design and development of computational methods, tools, and pipelines for the processing, analysis, and visualization of molecular data generated by high-throughput protocols such as next-generation sequencing platforms. Administrates and ensure efficient running of the high-performance computing (HPC) facility including SGI cluster, TimeLogic, and Linux servers. Designs and maintains databases for efficient storing and retrieval of biological data sets. Under the supervision and direction of a faculty member, assists graduate students and undergraduate biology senior thesis students in bioinformatics research projects. Under the supervision and direction of a faculty member, ensures that the computer laboratory is updated with the latest bioinformatics and statistical software required for the different research projects
Qualifications Minimum education requirement: BS (preferably MS) in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, or related field Experience: Experience with Linux server and HPC cluster hardware setup and configuration, performance monitoring, tuning and troubleshooting, and clustered computing (SGE, PBS, or LSF)
